Baby Cruisin Love/Macaroni

One of my favorite aspects to Perfume is that there is no lead. In an individual song, one girl may be more featured. Take the overall group and work of body, I don’t see a lead. Just throwing that out there.

Now for BABY CRUISIN LOVE/MACARONI, which will no doubt be one of my favorite singles of 2008.

BABY CRUISIN LOVE:

Song: We have a great song here. I didn’t think it was that special upon first listen but my it has grown on me. As usual, they harmonize so well. It may be due to equipment/production matters, but that doesn’t matter! It sounds FANTASTIC. It’s very simple but I enjoy the beat pattern. I have just started snapping to it while I’ve been out in the city. The chorus is very catchy as well. Unfortunately, my standards were very, very high for Perfume, so they have taken a little step back. But not that big of a step (****)

Video: The lights. Maybe they annoy you and I can understand why. There are lots of them. I like the mood they set. Especially the moments when there is no front lighting on the girls and it gives off a silhouette effect. The long exposure light stuff is my favorite. When I first saw this video, it was on a day where I was playing with long exposure photography with a friend. When I came home and saw Baby Cruisin Love, it was, once again, another sign that Perfume and the entire Japanese music industry is designed for me.

No one has changed that much since Polyrhythm. Kashiyuka is as pretty as ever. A~chan is beautiful as ever. Nocchi is as cool as ever. I’m leaning towards Nocchi the most in this (and as of late). I can’t explain it!

I love this!

And now, the long exposure lightbulb drawing event

A~chan:

Form: A little off while trying to stand in one spot while moving in the first drawing. Yet solid as a rock in the third drawing. ((9))
Creativity: Who knows really what goes on in the mind of A~chan. This is evident in the first 2 drawings. However, in the final one, she lets the love come to us and you cannot go wrong with that. ((9))
Fun: The second drawing is the most fun as it involves the most action. Still, she probably is laughing to herself profusely in the third drawing knowing the love is around the corner ((10))

Don’t think I didn’t catch this A~chan.

Kashiyuka:

Form: A strong prescience here. She knows what she is doing and is not messing around. ((10))
Creativity: A Kashiyuka lamp post. This is all I see in the third drawing and I want one. I need one. ((10))
Fun: She does give up the fun for the form. ((9))

Nocchi:

Form: No loose ends here! ((10))
Creativity: I am totally hypnotized by Nocchi after the 3rd drawing. ((10))
Fun: Lots of action here. I think she’s having plenty of fun. ((10))

MACARONI:

Song: With an opening coming straight out of a Sega Genesis Sonic game, we have Macaroni. When I learned that Perfume was going to do a song called Macaroni, I was very happy. After all, one of my favorite Perfume songs, Sweet Donuts, was named after food. I was thrown back a bit by this song because it is definitely something different from the Perfume singles since Linear Motor Girl. I like it though. I love it whenever a band will experiment with a different style before the old one grows stale. (****)

Video: This came out of nowhere! This video is so fantastic. Go watch this right now. Stop reading this and watch it. Here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jIQJoTxjN5Y. Essentially it’s just a bunch of moments, slice of life stuff, of Perfume in the city. I guess the effect of that will be lost on some others. In my photography, this is what I like to capture. I go out into the city and I capture moments. Slice of life stuff sure, but just people in their everyday life. If I take 100 photographs in a day, maybe one or two is worth keeping. I love the train scenes. Perfume is probably my most played music while taking public transportation, so once again, all created with me in mind.

While I wouldn’t believe this video shows Perfume in their everyday lives, they are doing everyday activities. Watching birds. Laughing. Standing around. Resting on a bench. Walking down the street. IT IS SO GREAT. Kashiyuka uses a DSLR at one point in this, at which point I knew we were meant to be.

I like the song Macaroni, but I could just watch this video for hours muted if I had to.

A~chan:

I always said A~chan looked like Ai Takahashi (but with personality). Here she looks like Risako Sugaya (but with personality).

Kashiyuka:

Nocchi:

I could watch this all day.

Nocchi recording people living their everyday life! I love this PV too much.

Perfume:

Beatles Beatles. Oh man, could you imagine if someone mixed up Perfume with the White Album like Danger Mouse did with Jay-z’s the Black Album. It could potentially sound like crap but that is not the point.

Furthermore, I take this exact shot, someone crossing the street, many times during the day.

I love shadows. I also go after shadows when I am shooting. This is great.

I don’t expect anyone else to like this PV as much as I do. Either way, this will be one of my favorites for 2008.
