I Almost Looked Like A Fool
I almost looked like a freaking imbecile. Let’s looks at a few excerpts from a post that I was about to make on TLS.
Perfume will probably finished 2nd to Aoyama Thelma.
I’ll be disappointed if they sell anything less than the 60,000-70,000 range - double what Baby cruising love/macaroni did in its first week.
Boy, I was way off.
I find little relief in not posting these statements though. I just didn’t finish the post in time. Up until I woke up this morning, I still felt that both of these statement were going to be true.
Perfume’s love the world debuted #1 on the Oricon Daily Charts, with a reported 21,523 copies sold. Aoyama Thelma’s Nando mo is #8.
At 21,523 copies in the first day, I am pretty sure that I won’t have to worry about it reaching the 60,000-70,000 range.
So what can I conclude from the error of my ways?
I need to stop selling my favorite group short. I sold GAME short similarly to how I did not expect love the world to top the charts. Granted, they aren’t dominating like a Johnny’s group would, but they might as well be the next best thing.
Popularity is a fragile thing. Aoyama Thelma’s last single, Soba ni Iru ne, was released January 2008 and has around 444,000 reported sales. Looking at that number again, maybe I wasn’t a complete fool to expect another hit from her. Six months is a long time though. I’m not sure what happened – I don’t know much about Aoyama Themla – but if her popularity took a nosedive, I’m not exactly surprised.
Does this mean the same thing will happen to Perfume? Yes, eventually. Hell, if Pink Lady can crash and burn and grow stale, I expect it to happen to every act eventually. Hopefully, it won’t be anytime soon.
So instead of continuing to bemoan how wrong I was, I’m just going to enjoy the moment. Perfume is #1, selling well, making good music and providing great entertainment through PVs and television.

Love the world deserve that spot, you know. I felt the same way too (being a fool) when I mentioned that Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance’s PV will have cowboy scenes. In the end, they were none! Only full of monkeys!!!
